Excerpt from:“For those who commit Five Offences and Ten Evils, they can obtain rebirth with sincere confession by chanting the same of Amitābha Buddha. Followers of other religions can also be reborn in the west by chanting the name of Amitābha Buddha without violating our religion. As for the serious Five Offences, they are heavy sins committed in life-the Five Offences and Ten Evils. Have you heard from the pure land? With sincere confessionand the dedication to good karma and deeds, everyone will be able to reborn. All the students must not misunderstand the meanings here. The serious sin of Five Offences is one. If you do not care about it and carry on doing anything related to the Five Offences and Ten Evils and think that you will chant the name of Buddha for 10 times while you are dying to attain rebirth, you completely misinterpret the meaning of the scripture. For the Five Offences and Ten Evils, the sins committed related to the Five Offences and Ten Evils shall be stopped right now. The sins you carry will be the old sins but not new sins. If the sin that I committed today is stopped by me now, it will be regarded as old sins andI can carry them with me. If it is continued, that will be an insult to Amitabha Buddha. You totally misunderstand the meaning of Amitabha. Doing bad things every day and committing sins every day, but think you will be able to get rebirth by chanting the name of Buddha for ten times while you are dying. You completely misinterpret the meaning of Buddha and totally twisted it. The sin is on you, not on Buddha. Your behavior is called willful violation. You shall fall into Avīci Naraka. You shall not obtain rebirth. Therefore, the carrying of sin, the most serious and heaviest sins are Five Offences and Ten Evils, behavior. Carrying old sins but not new sins. Whenever you start to learn buddha dharma,it is the day that you truly turn over a new leaf. However, it is easier to talk about it than actually doing it in terms of correcting mistakes. Without doing it, one will never be reborn. It might be difficult to change it in one go. You shall be less and less sinful every day. By the time you are on your way to go, it will be completely mended. Stop committing new sins right now. Confess every day, reflect yourself every day, and mend your mistakes every day. To make the recite effort effective, you shall confess and correct the mistakes. The recite effort will make the sin lighter and lighter day by day. By the time that you are dying, the mistakes shall be all corrected before your rebirth. There is another situation. […] What is that? A person carries all sorts of sins, and only know about dharma while he/she is dying. By the time they learn about Amitabha, they immediately turn over a new leaf without any hesitation. They truly step away from the sin, and they can obtain the rebirth. Are there this kind of people? Yes, but only a rare few. People who die like that are usually involved with a lot of Kalpa in the past life but with profound good faith. They have never encountered Buddha and have no idea about it. While dying and when hell appears in front of them, they suddenly realize everything and truly let go everything. In “The Record of Pure Land Saints” and in “Pure Land Buddhist Biography”, Master Ying Ke in Sung Dynasty is a good example. He was a monk without complying with regulations, without following restrictions, and committed all sorts of sins. However, there was still one good thing about him. He was so scared of falling to the hell. He clearly understood thatthe behaviors in his whole life will definitely lead him to hell. Even though he worried about it so much, he struggled to correct it and to make it right. He was so scared of the sufferings in hell, and he consulted to his co-monks. They gave him a book of “Pure Land Buddhist Biography”. He shed tears profusely after reading it. He was so touched! He closed his door and carried out chanting the name of Buddha for three days and three nightwithout any sleep and break. He didn’t sleep nor eat anything. He was so sincere, and Amitabha Buddha came to see him.

The Buddha said to him that you still have 10 years of your life. Do everything good as much as you can, and step away from all the bad. I would come to fetch you in 10 years. He said Amitabha Buddha, “I can’t wait. I have such bad practices. I cannot resist myself from temptation. I am not sure how much sin I will commit in the 10 years. I do not want the rest of life, and I am going with you now.” Amitabha Buddha promised him and said, “Okay, I will pick you up in 3 days.” Three days later, he passed away without any illness.

“The Record of Pure Land Saints” recorded this public case. It is someone who knows that the bad practice will not be changed, and decided that he didn’t want the rest of his life. He actually passed away after that. […] It is very painful when the sins appeared before passing away. What can you do if visualization is not achievable at that moment? You can change the method to chant the name of Buddha. You can still obtain the rebirth by chanting the name of Buddha. It is specifically for those who carry out the practice for 16 views. You doubt that the religion is unbelievable. We have to know and Clearly understand in order to decide our own direction. In today’s society, there are all sorts of disasters. Tinkerman is our model, Master Ying Ke is our model, and Master Xiu Wu is our model. We have to put our behavior and knowledge into the real practice. We must not have any affection to the world. It is other people’s business for having the affection. Only without affection, I will be able to go to the pure land for rebirth.
