Chiang Kai-shek, former president of the Republic of China, was a descendant of Jiang Zhongba. Jiang Zhongba, the second son of Jiang Guang, was a politician in Later Liang. Residing in nowadays Fenghua District, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, he was a kind and generous man as well as a devotee of Buddha. Due to his ancestry’s position as official, He was chosen as the judge of Mingzou. Working in Siming, he was not a high-ranking official. His duty was to judge if there was any miscarriage of justice. Eventually, his “judgment” was deemed as inappropriate, and then he was decommissioned. After that, he gained the true vision of this world, left his worldly bound, and converted into Buddhism. He built a small shrine on top of Panshan in Tiantong Temple, Nigbo, living in seclusion and practicing. He often chanted “Mahā-Prajñā-pāramitā,” Meaning “Great Wisdom Beyond” in Sanskrit. Jiang Zhongba called himself as “Maha Householder.” Countryman called him “Jiang the Maha.” He found “Monk Budai” by the Shanbeek, Fenghua. He kneeled before the monk and called him “master.” Thereafter, the master and the apprentice roamed around, journeying everywhere. Three years after, it is said in the 3rd year of Zhenming, Later Liang, they travelled to Fujian and bathed in Changding Hot Spring. Zhongba discovered a shining eye on the central back of “Monk Budai.” The legend said that Monk Budai was an avatar of Maitreya. There was a woman named as Wang Caiyu in Qing Dynasty. Her destiny was an unfortunate one, going through many pains and sufferings throughout her life. When she was young, she faced the challenge of the decease of her father, her husband, and her son and was infamized as the bane of husbands and sons. With despair, she then became a nun. Later, she was encouraged and motivated by her family. In 1886, the nun, at her age of 23, returned from seclusion and married a rich businessman who was 23 older than her. In 1887, she and the new husband had a first son, Chiang Kai-shek, later known as the president of the Republic of China.
Master Chin Kung is telling you the karma between Sun Yat-sen, Chiang Kai-shek, and Mao Zhedong. When Chairman Mao and President Chiang were both young, they were good friends and followers of Mr. Sun. After Mr. Sun passed away, they had different opinions and thus became rivals. I met them after they’re gone. They possessed me and sought me out. President Chiang told me of his relationship with Chairman Mao. Where did they come from? Originally, they were gods. They came down from the heaven to aid Mr. Sun. Mr. Sun made a mistake and so was taken by the heaven. What was that mistake? He offended the Buddha. In a temple, a statue of Buddha was destroyed by him. At the time, it’s called “breaking the superstition.” Today, no one in the country believes in the Buddha. They reject the Buddha. Mr. Sun was responsible for this. That was a wrong move! For this reason, he was taken back to the heaven. Consequently, Mr. Mao and Mr. Chiang opposed each other, leading to strife of societies this day. They were all responsible...
Master Hsing Yun: The Relation between Me and the Chiang Family "...With his victory of Northern Expedition, His rule, his absence of rule, and his relationship throughout his life were not known to me. However, I know that he “was the good son of his mother.” In the article where he memorized Mrs. Wang, his mother, he mentioned that she always chanted Diamond Sutra and Śūraṅgama Sutra. He used to live in Shuedo Temple with his mother and so was deeply influenced by Buddhism. Later, Buddhism faced many disasters such as the “Education Promotion and Production by Temples” advocated by Professor Tai Shuang-chiu of Nanjing Central University in 1930 and the demolition of temples in Henan by the Christian General Feng Yu-hsiang. It was Mr. Chiang’s justice that prevented the Buddhism from disasters. Mr. Chiang was a good friend of Master Taishu, who came from the same homeland with him. Their friendship even went further. Mr. Chiang once assigned Master Taishu as the abbot of Shuedo Temple and invited him to have a sermon of Heart Sutra in the National Government. Later he invested 3,000 silver dollars, allowing Master Taishu to spread his sermon of Buddhism all over the world and establish “World Buddhist College.” Such an event was recorded in Master Taishu’s Sermon Around the World. In order to memorize his acquaintance to Chiang Kai-shek, Master Taishu led a group of monks to visit India and other places during the Sino-Japanese War, promoting the idea of fighting against the Japanese. In 1945, he won the war. The entire country was rejoicing. That was the most glorious achievement in Chiang’s life. In 1950, Chiang Kai-shek visited Taiwan. With a noble idea of establishing a country, He wanted to make Taiwan a model province of Saminism. Such action could reassure the people and bring the continuance of the Republic of China with a century-old history to this day. This was his contribution to Taiwan. Mr. Chiang honored the Three Jewels throughout his life. He chanted the Buddhist scriptures with his mother during childhood. He studied the Buddhism deep. His childhood was spent in Shuedo Temple. He also liked to shaved his head bald, and was in favor of vegetarian diets, particularly the dishes boiled to extremely soft. In his later years, that was in 1972, the sixth year after the establishing of Fo Guang Shan, Chiang Kai-shek travelled to his villa in Sizihwan, Kaohsiung. He’d sent his escorts to Fo Guang Shan, expressing his intention of short accommodation for days. At the time, Fo Guang Shan was just in its initial stage. There were only a few houses. A seminar to the devotees was held on the mountain, so I asked him to wait for a couple days. I specifically made up and renovated Huiming Hall, where I was living, and even made a big change of the restroom. I was prepared to welcome him on the mountain. At that moment, when everything was settled, he suddenly received the news of breaking diplomatic ties between ROC and Japan. He rushed back to Taipei and then encountered an accident in Yangming Mountain. He then grew sick and passed away three years after. After he’s gone. His will, recorded by Mr. Chin Hsiao-yi, was very long and tedious. In that will, he claimed president to be a devotee of Jesus Christ. I deeply take exception to that. I believe that the president belongs to the people. He does not belong to one specific religion. All religions mourned for his death. We chanted for him. Yet, it was announced that the burial ceremony would be done in a Christian manner. For this, I recalled that in the Sun Yat-sen’s Grand Marshal House in Guangzhou, one of his secretaries often advocated Christianity. Mr. Sun stopped him from doing so. The secretary protested: “You know you are a Christian!” Mr. Sun said: “Sun Yat-sen is a Christian, but the Grand Marshal is not!” "
