The Śūraṅgama Sūtra

The Śūraṅgama Sūtra is indeed the culmination of mercy. It’s no wonder why ancient Hindus saw this scripture as the greatest in their country. Even Master Xuanzhang missed out on such a work in India. Pramiti suffered greatly when bringing the scripture to China. Every time he tried to enter without permission, he always got caught by the guards and punished. Without alternatives, he transcribed the scripture in tiny words, sliced his arms, hid it in his flesh, and then sealed it with a needle. That was how the Śūraṅgama Sūtra was brought over. What an uneasy task! The Hindus did not cherish their Dharma. All the scriptures can be shared, but not the Śūraṅgama Sūtra. It’s a treasure of their kingdom. They hid it in secret, and only their kinds can read it. Today, their Dharma was no more, and that comes from the karma of not cherishing it. This is the warning to us all!
